Genuin

Genuin is a Romanian brand of linen home textiles, selling across Romania and the EU. We built its WooCommerce store on a custom theme, and at its heart the product configurator: customers choose the fabric, the heading and the size of their curtains, drapes or Roman blinds, and the price is calculated on the spot, to the centimetre.

The challenge

What needed to change

Genuin curtains are cut to fit each window, so there is no fixed price: it depends on the width, the fullness of the heading, the fabric and the lining. Before the configurator, every order meant an exchange of messages, a manual calculation and a quote sent by email.

Not every fabric exists in every colour for every heading; stock is measured in metres of fabric, not in products, and the same roll feeds bed linen, curtains and drapes. The store runs in two languages and two currencies, and every order has to reach the workshop with all its technical details, without being copied out by hand.

Our approach

How we solved it

A four-step configurator — fixing system, heading, collection and colour, then dimensions — where every choice filters the next options, so customers can never reach a combination that cannot be made. Curtains, drapes and Roman blinds share one interface, each with its own attribute tree and price formula, and can be combined in the same basket.

WooCommerce variations are turned on the server into a cached attribute tree for each language and sent to the browser once. The price is calculated instantly in the browser and again on the server when adding to the basket, where the value coming from the browser is ignored. Each made-to-measure piece becomes a product variation created on the fly, with its own SKU and price.
